We live in a world that attaches labels to us that do not line up with what God has said about us. “Label is a classifying phrase or name applied to a person or thing, especially one that is inaccurate or restrictive.” We are stereotyped by people we have never met. “Stereotype is an often unfair and untrue belief that many people have about all people or things with a particular characteristic.” We are not defined by what people call us; we are defined by what God calls us. We must embrace and make the Word of God the final authority in our lives.
God is always lifting us up, so if we hear anything contrary to what God has said about us, we have the right to reject it. We have to take authority over our minds and line it up with God’s Word to receive His results. Isaiah 55:8-9, states, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, said the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” So when we are feeling any kind of way (needing wisdom, rest, or validation) go to the Word of God and find out what He said about what we need and believe it.
My mom used to tell me, “Just because someone calls you a name does not mean you have to respond especially if it is not true.” There will always be someone who has an opinion about us negative or positive. It could be the clothes we wear, how we talk, our demeanor, our hairstyle and list goes on and on. It’s ok to be uniquely you. God loves the original us and not who we pretend to be. How He created each one of us is perfect. I remember hearing “God didn’t make no junk” and that is true.
We must remember that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
We must be confident in who God has called us to be. Someone is waiting on our authentic selves to show up and be the difference in the lives of others. No one can tell our story because no one has done exactly what we have done day after day. Be encouraged Sis. Go ahead and write that book, mentor someone, or open up that business. Do what God has placed in your heart to do. Step out on faith!!! We got this!!!
When someone tries to put labels us remember this:
L = I am Loved by God.
A = I am Anointed to be who God has called me to be.
B= I am Beautiful – I’m God’s BeYouties.
E= I am Elegant – I walk in every place with style and grace being uniquely me.
L= I am a Lady – I am a lifelong learner embracing change for the better.
S = I am Saved, Satisfied and Secure in Jesus Christ.
Ladies, we must use our voices to turn the tables and switch the labels. We do this by not stereotyping and putting negative labels on other women. Not judging someone because don’t they look, talk or act like us. We are all God’s children and He wants all of us to win!!!
In closing, 1 Peter 2:9 “ But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a [special] people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
